In 2010, he partnered with Melvyn Jones to turn this vision into reality, transforming Tennis Works into a leading Tennis Development and Education Resource Company. By utilizing modern technology, they connected with thousands of coaches worldwide through tennisworks.net. Tennis Works was also a pioneer in offering tennis webinars, featuring insights from top coaches, including those who developed Grand Slam champions like Rafael Nadal and Carlos Moya.
Tennis Works is centered on building a strong community. With personalized development plans and live seminars designed to bring coaches together to learn and share, Tennis Works remains committed to serving the unique needs of each coach. Many events are filmed and edited to create high-quality content, which continues to be a huge success.
In 2023, John took full control following Melvyn’s retirement and ushered in a new phase of growth for Tennis Works. With an upgraded website and a stronger team—including a Senior Content Manager and Social Media Expert—Tennis Works is more accessible and engaging than ever.
In 2025, the launch of the new tennisworks.net marks a new chapter, as Tennis Works continues to build momentum, attract expert contributors, and inspire coaches worldwide. The journey is just beginning!

JOHN CAVILL is the visionary founder of Tennis Works, a pioneering company dedicated to tennis development and educational resources. From an early age, sport played a major role in John’s life—his journey began with club football before discovering his passion for tennis at 14, attending weekly pay-and-play sessions on public courts in Aylesbury. This grassroots introduction shaped his deep commitment to community tennis.
At 16, John joined Aylesbury Tennis Club and quickly made his mark, becoming the youngest coach in the country through the USPTR in 1994. While coaching came naturally, he remained an active competitor, winning a divisional national championship in 1995.
After completing A-Levels at Aylesbury Grammar School, John pursued a degree in Sports Science with Administration and Coaching at the University of Lincoln. Upon graduating, he joined David Lloyd Milton Keynes, where he rapidly expanded the programme from 90 to 310 players in just nine months—an early testament to his ability to drive participation through strong business and coaching practices.
In 2000, John founded Tennis Works, growing it into a nationally recognized coaching business while forging valuable relationships with coaches and clubs across the UK and abroad. Inspired by the mentorship he received, he evolved Tennis Works into a global tennis development and education platform through tennisworks.net.
In 2013, John became Director of Tennis at Stony Stratford Tennis Club, transforming an underperforming club into a thriving centre of excellence. His leadership revitalized the coaching programme, attracted record membership numbers, and cemented the club’s reputation as a hub for player development.
Under John’s guidance, Tennis Works is more than just a coaching platform—it’s a transformative journey of discovery, opportunity, and support. He continues to lead Stony Stratford Tennis Club alongside his dedicated coaching team, earning recognition from governing bodies, coaches, and parents for the club’s player development, member engagement, and long-term financial stability. Through his work, John ensures that tennis remains vibrant and accessible for future generations.
