Back, Bounce, Yes – Feedback On Good Contact

Welcome to this focused tennis drill designed to improve your cross-court forehand consistency and contact awareness. In this drill, players will practice early preparation, balance, and proper contact point. The key is for players to call out “back” as the ball crosses the net, “bounce” when the ball hits the ground, and “yes” if they are balanced and make good contact. If the player is off balance or makes poor contact, they’ll shout “no.” This feedback loop helps build awareness and consistency.

The drill:

  • The ball is fed to the player’s forehand side in a basket feed setup.
  • As the ball crosses the net, the player shouts “back,” signaling they are preparing early and reacting in time.
  • Once the ball bounces, the player says “bounce,” ensuring they are in position and ready to hit.
  • If the player hits the ball with good contact at the optimal point (in front of the body and balanced), they shout “yes.”
  • If they’re off balance or contact is incorrect (either behind the body or not solid), they shout “no.”
