One of the greatest clay court players, Rafael Nadal’s record-breaking French Open career looked like ending when the 14-time champion lost against Alexander Zverev. Rafael Nadal, who turns 38 soon, went down 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 to world number four Zverev facing his 4th loss in these 116 matches since 2005. This was his first defeat in Paris in the opening round. 

This raises several questions about his long-term future in tennis. He rejoined the tour last month after being absent for 15 months due to his hip surgery in 2023. 

“I don’t know if this is the last time I will be here, I am not 100% sure but if it is then I want to enjoy it,” said Nadal. “The feelings today are difficult to describe in words.”

“The feelings that I have today are difficult to describe in words but for me, it’s so special to feel the love from the people, in the way that I felt in the place where I won the most,” Nadal added.
