Mastering Emotional Intelligence & Parent Partnerships – Coach Seminar

Thurs 15th October 2026, 10am–1pm, Stony Stratford Tennis Club

The Coaching Triangle: Mastering Emotional Intelligence & Parent Partnerships

The technical side of tennis is only half the battle; the true challenge lies in navigating the complex human dynamics between coach, player, and parent. This essential seminar, led by specialist John Cavill, focuses on the “soft skills” that yield hard results. We will move beyond the baseline to bridge the gap between on-court instruction and off-court psychology, providing you with practical frameworks to manage the most stressful aspects of the profession. By mastering the Coaching Triangle, you will learn to transform parental involvement from a potential obstacle into a professional partnership that accelerates player development and increases programme retention.

By the end of this intensive 3-hour seminar, you will be able to:

  • Decode Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in Sport: Gain a deep understanding of how to identify subtle emotional cues in your athletes, learning exactly when to push for high-intensity performance and when to pivot your approach to maintain psychological well-being.

  • Establish Professional “Onboarding” & Boundaries: Implement a system for treating parents as “clients” rather than hurdles. You will learn to set firm, professional boundaries from day one, ensuring the parental role remains supportive of the long-term developmental process.

  • Master Conflict Resolution & “The Car Ride Home”: Acquire specific strategies for managing high-pressure situations and guiding parents on the “post-match conversation.” You will learn to set realistic expectations for talent development while protecting the player’s motivation during the most vulnerable moments of their journey.
